You want to support your staff with their mental health and understand the importance of getting the right sort of training in place.
You recognise the equal importance of both physical and mental health, therefore mental health training is an obvious choice to achieve this.
Yet, where do you start? What does this training initiative look like and how can you arrange this for your organisation?
It’s one thing deciding what training you want for your staff, but how easy is that to implement?
In my blog, I will explain the simple steps that you need to take to start your organisation’s training journey with me.
Which Mental Health course is the right one for your organisation?
Mental health related illness is one of the biggest causes of staff absence and costs the economy millions of pounds every year. So now, more than ever, it is vital that we all learn the tools and techniques to provide the assistance people deserve.
Mental Health Awareness training serves as an ideal first step in the journey to learn about mental health. I recommend this training course for everyone as it creates a solid foundation of knowledge across all levels of staff and helps reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. When you consider that 25% of us all experience mental health struggles in any given year, it makes sense to empower your staff with at least some basic knowledge of this topic. This course is available to any organisation within the UK and is the perfect starting point to begin your strategy with supporting mental health in the workplace.
The more in-depth Mental Health First Aid course is recommended for at least 10% of your staff in order to achieve an efficient network of support in your organisation. National businesses already working towards that 10% goal include Royal Mail, Skanska and Network Rail.
This First Aid course is particularly beneficial for team leaders and management in order to understand more about the early warning signs of potential developing problems and, therefore, to be able to address them quickly. As you will find, the course explains how early intervention is key and by investing in training for your staff, you will help to prevent financial loss due to mental health related absenteeism and presenteeism.
If you are an organisation based in Wales, you would require the MHFA Wales course and if based in England, you need to have the MHFA England course.
I will support you in deciding how many of your staff would require training, which course and help you to make the right decision on which type of staff that you could include.
